Technology Enabling Centre University Of Ladakh in collaboration with Department of Computer Science/IT successfully organized UOL APPATHON 1.0 on October 14, 2024. The event took place at the Kargil Campus and provided a platform for young talent to innovate and develop Android apps. Thirteen participants from across Ladakh were thoroughly evaluated based on app design, code implementation, and documentation & presentation. The expert panel included Mr. Iftiqar Hussain, District Informatics Officer, Kargil, and Mr. Asgar Ali, founder of Ladadx Code Studio and Hash Himalaya. Mr. Mohd Taqi from Damsna Suru Kargil Ladakh secured first place for his exceptional app development and coding skills. He received a cash prize of Rs. 10,000, while the runner-up, Mr. Imtiyaz Ali, was awarded Rs. 5,000.
Event Overview

The Valedictory Function was graced by distinguished dignitaries, including Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, as the chief guest, and Vice-Chancellor, University of Ladakh, Prof. (Dr.) S.K. Mehta, as the guest of honor. Special guests Iftiqar Hussain and Asgar Ali also lent their support.

In his welcome address, Dr. Mehboob Ali emphasized the significance of digital technology in India’s digital revolution. He commended the participants for their innovative contributions and expressed gratitude for the support from LAHDC Kargil and the visionary leadership of Prof. (Dr.) S.K. Mehta, which was instrumental in the success of UOL APPATHON 1.0.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Mehta stressed the importance of technology-driven events that foster entrepreneurship and start-ups in Ladakh. He noted that the University of Ladakh is among only ten institutions in India to be sanctioned a Technology Enabling Centre by DST, a significant achievement in promoting technology development and incubation.

Prof. Mehta also mentioned the establishment of the I Hub DivyaSampark center at the Kargil Campus, marking a milestone in supporting tech development and start-ups in the region.

In his keynote address, CEC Dr. Jaffer Akhoon praised the participants and encouraged Ladakh's youth to engage in entrepreneurship and innovation, particularly in creating apps that serve the greater good in fields like health and education. He applauded Prof. Mehta's leadership and announced financial assistance of Rs. 10 lakh for the Kargil Campus, with an assurance of continued support from LAHDC Kargil.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Anwar Hussain, Assistant Professor of Computer Science and IT, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, participants, and stakeholders for their contributions to the event’s success.
