2nd PAG Meeting of Technology Enabling Centre, University of Ladakh

The meeting was attended by Expert advisory members TEC, UoL, Dr. K. Sankaran, Dr. Krishna Kant Pulichera, Scientist-E, TTI, DST, Mr. Nawang Tundup, Registrar UoL/Co-Coordinator DST-TEC, Dr. O.P Chaurasia Director, Defence Institute of High Altitude Research (DIHAR) Leh, Prof. Dr. Srinivas DST-TEC GITAM University, Dr. Abass Ali, Chairman, Kargil Mindok Cooperative Society and special invitees from various DST-TECs attended the meeting in person. The meeting was attended by Dr Subrat Sharma, Dean Research, UoL, Dr. Sagar Juneja, TEC Coordinator, Chitkara, University, Chandigarh, Dr G.S Kapoor,former Executive Director -I/c (Chem Technology and Tech. Promotion & Forecasting), Head-IOCL Technology Development & Deployment Centre and Dr Jigmet Stobdan, Co-Coordinator TEC UoL attended the meeting in online mode. Dr. Mehboob Ali Co-Coordinator DST-TEC UoL and other Co-Coordinators were also present along with TEC Team. The agenda of the PAG meeting was to review the progress of works being executed by TEC, University of Ladakh. The Experts Advisory Group reviewed the progress of TEC and the reviewed the proposed activities for next 6 months. The TEC through power point presentation presented industry specific problems/gaps identified in sectors like Pashmina Industry, Apricot Processing, Heritage Preservation, Cold Arid Agriculture and Floriculture. The PAG members asked the TEC-UoL to focus on two to three problem areas for exploration and communicate/float the problems identified with specification to other TECs for exchange of technology etc.In the meeting TEC-UoL also presented seven technology/product ideas submitted by faculty members of UoL and other Govt. institutes. The Expert Advisory Group reviewed all projects and advised TEC to explore avenues for enhancement of technology readiness level of the product ideas. The Honorable Vice Chancellor expressed that the University is committed to provide all sorts of possible assistance for development of technology ecosystem in Ladakh region. In the meeting Director DIHAR, also highlighted various research initiatives carried out by DIHAR for Ladakh specific problems, he also added that DIHAR is always optimistic for collaboration and consultation with TEC UoL in brining technological solutions for Ladakh specific high altitude problems. Dr. K. Sankaran, mentor of TEC UoL added that the core objective of TEC is to enable all sorts of activities/process for technology development and commercialization including technology for societal good. He added that TEC-UoL to ensure techno-economics of technology being enabled by TEC for user end point so that technological solutions are affordable for local people. In the meeting TEC representatives from GITAM, Visakhapatnam expressed their strong willingness to transfer Solar Dryer Technology developed by them to Ladakh. The PAG members applauded the activities carried out in last one year and appreciated the growth rate of TEC-UoL since its inception.
The TEC-UoL proposed various activities including Ladakh Agrithon,
Startup Bootcamp, Brain Storming session on Pashmina industry to
populate the concept of TEC among the people of Ladakh region.
In order to span its horizon and further improve the technology ecosystem
development, the advisory group also suggested TEC-UoL to frequently
interact with representatives of other TECs.
The special invitees both in online and offline mode offered their valuable
suggestions and remarks on TEC’s progress, initiatives, collaborations and
future possible/feasible projects in context of Ladakh’s unique and specific
challenges.
At the end the Chairman of the meeting, Prof. S.K. Mehta, Hon’ble Vice
Chancellor, presented his best regards to all the attendees and hoped that
TEC-UoL shall work on all suggestions and move forward with more
enthusiasm and positivity towards establishing the goals of TEC in Ladakh.
The meeting was formally concluded with vote of thanks to the chair and
to all the attendees.
